The Caledonian Society of Sweden Burns Night Supper

The skirl of the bagpipes will welcome you to a wonderful evening of traditional Scottish culture, poetry, music, dancing, good food and a dram or two of whisky. Our piper will then lead us in to the dining area. After the loyal toasts to the monarchs of Sweden and Great Britain, we will enjoy the Address to the Haggis, written by Burns in 1786. Whisky traditionally accompanies this poem but wine will also be served. Before dinner, a traditional Scottish prayer, the Selkirk Grace, will be read.

After the first course comes the “Immortal Memory”, a personal tribute to Burns’ life and works. The main course is followed by the light hearted speeches to the Lassies (girls) and Laddies (boys). These should bring a few smiles to your faces. After the dessert our resident musicians will play a medley of Burns’ best-known songs.

The lottery, with attractive prizes that include bottles of malt whisky, will raise already-heightened spirits. Coffee will then be served. By now our dance master will be waiting for your participation in a few of the easier Scottish dances (see over if you would like to practice them). The bar will be open after dinner. To end this wonderful evening we will all join hands to sing, “Auld Lang Syne”.

Swedish Navy versus British Embassy Squash Tournament

There is an annual squash match played between the UK & US embassies versus the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN); it takes place on Saturday Feb 9th 2019 and is organised by the UK Embassy Defence Section.  Your Association would like to support the British side by fielding a strong contingent of players, so that we can take back the trophy which the RSwN won last time by one point (- just one, ONE, point!!).

Thus, we are calling on any squash players to come forward for that event.  Please email us giving a rough idea of how good you are, or when you last played, so that the Defence Section can field a winning team.  There is a strong possibility there will be a dinner in the evening to celebrate our victory!
